Dip into sleep

I'm translating a booklet -often written in a rather poetical style- and I suspect the following sentence may not sound quite acceptable in English. "December, the kingdom of shadows. Life goes into hiding amongst the chiaroscuros of the last month of the year, when red in the sky turns grey and many dip into sleep, awaiting... under the cold of winter." I'd very much appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance.

  • There's nothing wrong with "dip into sleep" but it implies a short period, whereas you are referring to an extended period.

Thank you, The Newt. Thank you, Glasguensis. Would it be correct to say "plunge into"? Thank you in advance.
